Watch: Select an AI avatar in the editor (about 50 seconds)

In this help doc

You choose the avatar for each scene in the Avatar panel of the video editor. This doc shows how to open the panel, find a ready-made avatar, add it to your scene, and change how it's framed.

Open the Avatar panel

To open the Avatar panel:

  1. In the video editor, click Avatar in the left toolbar.

  2. Use the tabs at the top of the panel. My Avatars lists the Video Avatars, Photo Avatars, and Character Avatars you've created. AI Avatars lists the ready-made Studio Avatars and AI-Generated Avatars.

Note: If you haven't created an avatar yet, My Avatars shows Create your first avatar and a Create Avatar button.

  2. Under Type, choose Studio or AI-Generated.

  3. Click Apply.

The filter also has Gender, Ethnicity, Category, and an Avatar with AI gestures switch. To find an avatar by name, type it in the search box.

Add an avatar to your scene

Studio Avatars

To use a Studio Avatar, click it in the list. It replaces the avatar in the current scene right away.

AI-Generated Avatars

To use an AI-Generated Avatar:

  1. Click the avatar. The panel shows its looks.

  2. Click a look, for example Madison_Relaxed_Casual. The avatar in the scene changes to that look.

💡 Tip: To go back to the full avatar list, click the arrow next to the avatar's name at the top of the panel.

Change the framing

To change how the avatar appears in the scene:

  1. Select the avatar on the canvas. The toolbar above the canvas shows the avatar options.

  2. Click Framing and choose Full Body, Circular, Rectangle, or Voice Only.

Full-body and upper-body versions

Some stock avatars come in two versions: full-body and upper-body. Full-body avatars support all framing options. Upper-body avatars are cropped at the waist and can't be extended to full body. The two versions can look the same in the list, so if you're unsure, add the avatar to a scene to check which one you're using.

Note: Enterprise customers can request a custom Studio Avatar as an add-on to an existing plan. It's made in the same style as the stock avatars and tailored to your brand, including outfits, appearance, language, tone, and persona. This add-on isn't available on the Free, Personal, or Team plans, where you can create Video Avatars and Photo Avatars instead.
