Watch: Create motion graphics

In this help doc

Motion graphics turn what a scene says into an animated graphic, such as a chart, a timeline, or a big number. This doc shows how to create one from a template or with Auto, and how to edit its text, revise its design, and sync it with a new script.

Create a motion graphic from a template

With a template, the motion graphic takes its data and wording from the scene's script. Your prompt only changes the style and the motion.

To create a motion graphic from a template:

  1. Select the scene and write its script.

  2. Click Motion in the left menu.

  3. Under Select a template, click a template card, for example Hero stat.

  4. (Optional) In Prompt, describe the style or motion you want.

  5. Click Generate.

Opening the Motion panel, choosing the Hero stat template, and typing a style prompt

After a few minutes, the motion graphic is added to the scene as a video clip. Just like with video assets, you can use the crop, trim, and loop functions.

Note: A template needs a script. If the scene has no script, Generate stays grayed out. Reference images aren't used with a template, so Add images is grayed out.

Create a motion graphic with Auto

With Auto, your prompt decides the layout and design, and the script supplies the content. You can generate with only a script or only a prompt.

To create a motion graphic with Auto:

  1. Click Motion in the left menu, then click the Auto card.

  2. In Prompt, describe the graphic you want.

  3. (Optional) Click + (Add images) to add reference images. To remove one, point to it and click the trash icon.

  4. Click Generate.

Choosing Auto, typing a prompt, adding a reference image, and pointing to Generate

💡 Tip: Describe what you want to see, for example the chart type, colors, and how it moves.

Edit the text

To change the words in a motion graphic:

  1. Select the motion graphic clip in the scene. The Edit Text in Motion Graphics panel opens, and Edit is highlighted in the toolbar at the top.

  2. Change the text in the fields. To undo a change, click Reset to default (the reset icon) next to the field or the group.

Selecting the motion graphic clip, clicking Edit, and changing the headline text

Note: Text changes don't show in the editor preview. They appear in the exported video.

Revise the design

To change how a motion graphic looks:

  1. Select the motion graphic clip.

  2. Click Revise in the toolbar at the top. The Revise Motion Graphics panel opens.

  3. In Prompt, describe the change, then click Revise.

Clicking Revise, typing a design change, and the revised motion graphic replacing the clip

After a few minutes, the motion graphic is created again with your changes and replaces the clip.

Sync with an updated script

If you change the scene's script after you create a motion graphic, sync it so the graphic matches the new script.

To sync a motion graphic:

  1. Update the scene's script.

  2. Select the motion graphic clip.

  3. Click Sync in the toolbar at the top, then click OK.

Changing the script, clicking Sync and OK, and the motion graphic updating to the new number

After a few minutes, the motion graphic is created again from the latest script.
