Edit and Extend Videos with Seedance 2.5

Seedance 2.5 now supports two new modes: Video Editing and Video Extension. In addition to creating videos from scratch, you can now modify specific elements in an existing video or naturally extend scenes before or after the original clip.

What Are Video Editing and Video Extension in Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 can understand the scenes and flow of an existing video, then modify the video or generate new segments based on your prompt.

Video Editing

Video Editing lets you modify specific parts of an uploaded video.

You can change or remove visual elements such as people, objects, and backgrounds, and you can also edit audio elements in the video.

For example, you can:

  • Add small animals to a scene

  • Replace a person in the video with a person from a reference image

  • Remove a specific object or background element

  • Remove background music

  • Change an action or direction within a scene

Seedance 2.5 attempts to preserve the overall flow and composition of the original video while applying the changes described in your prompt.

Video Extension

Video Extension lets you generate new scenes that continue naturally from the beginning or end of an existing video.

Seedance 2.5 references the people, background, mood, and motion in the original video to create scenes that continue after the clip or lead naturally into its opening scene.

For example, you can:

  • Continue the story after the original video ends

  • Add a new opening scene before the original video begins

  • Extend a character’s action or camera movement

  • Add new scenes while maintaining the mood and visual style of the original video

You can also extend a video multiple times to develop a short clip into a longer sequence.

How to Use Video Editing in Seedance 2.5

  1. Open Seedance in AI Studios.

  2. Select Seedance 2.5 as the model.

  3. Select Video Editing as the generation mode.

  4. Upload the video you want to edit.

  5. Describe the changes you want to make in the prompt.

  6. Add image, video, or audio references if needed.

  7. Review your settings and select Generate.

The uploaded source video is automatically assigned as @Video 1.

Example:

Change the person’s outfit in the video to match @Image 1 and @Image 2. Keep the person’s face, dialogue, movements, and camera composition unchanged.

If you do not have a reference image, you can also describe the change directly in the prompt.

Example:

Change the background in the video to a beach while keeping the original person and their movements unchanged.

How to Use Video Extension in Seedance 2.5

  1. Open Seedance in AI Studios.

  2. Select Seedance 2.5 as the model.

  3. Select Video Extension as the generation mode.

  4. Upload the video you want to extend.

  5. Choose whether to extend the beginning or end of the video.

  6. Describe the new scene you want to add in the prompt.

  7. Review your settings and select Generate.

When extending the end of a video, it helps to describe the action or situation that should naturally follow the final scene of the original video.

Continue the scene after @Video 1. The person opens the door, steps outside, and slowly walks down the street. Keep the same person, mood, lighting, and camera style as the original video.

When extending the beginning of a video, describe what should happen immediately before the original video starts.

Extend the beginning of @Video 1. Start with an empty background with no person in the frame. After a moment, have the person slowly walk in from off-screen and transition naturally into the first scene of the original video.

Example:

Extend the beginning of @Video 1 by 15 seconds to create a 30-second video in total. For the first 3 seconds, show only the empty background. Then have the person naturally walk into frame from off-screen and move into the starting position of the original video. Make the transition into the original first scene seamless. Keep the camera fixed and maintain the same appearance, clothing, background, lighting, and visual style as the original video.

Tips for Better Prompts

Clearly specify what to change and what to keep

For Video Editing, clearly stating both what should change and what should remain unchanged can help produce more consistent results.

Example:

Replace the laptop on the table in @Video 1 with the product shown in @Image 1. Keep the person, their movements, the background, lighting, and camera movement unchanged.

Reference uploaded assets precisely

You can directly reference uploaded images, videos, and audio files in your prompt using labels such as @Image 1, @Video 2, and @Audio 1.

The source video being edited is automatically assigned as @Video 1, so make sure not to confuse it with any additional reference videos you upload.

Describe the flow of the extended scene in sequence

For Video Extension, describe the actions, scene changes, and camera movements that should occur in the newly generated segment in the order you want them to happen.

Example:

Extend the end of @Video 1 by 10 seconds. The person looks out the window, slowly stands up, and walks toward it. The camera smoothly follows the movement and ends with a wide view of the city at night. Keep the person’s appearance and clothing, the space, lighting, and overall video style consistent with the original.

Specify which elements should remain consistent

If character or style consistency is important, include instructions such as:

  • Keep the same person and clothing

  • Preserve the original background and lighting

  • Maintain the same visual style

  • Keep the camera movement and composition consistent

  • Preserve the original audio or overall mood

Supported Content and Usage Notes

Video Editing and Video Extension are based on an uploaded source video, so a source video is required to use either mode.

Generation may be restricted if uploaded or requested content violates copyright, portrait rights, or AI Studios content policies.

Important Notes

Seedance 2.5 is a generative AI model. Results may vary even when using the same prompt, and the requested changes may not always be reflected exactly as intended.

When editing complex scenes or changing multiple elements at once, people, objects, backgrounds, or motion from the original video may also change unintentionally.

For more consistent results, clearly specify which elements to change and which elements to preserve, and adjust your prompt and regenerate when necessary.

Generative Credit Usage

Using Video Editing or Video Extension with Seedance 2.5 uses generative credits.

The number of credits required may vary depending on the generation settings. Check the credit information shown in AI Studios before generating your video.
