Captions show your script as on-screen text, so viewers can follow your video even with the sound off. This doc shows how to generate captions at the length you want, fix their text and timing, update them after you change the avatar or voice, change how they look, and download, hide, or delete them.

To generate captions:

The slider has 7 lengths: One word, Short phrase, Short line, One line, Long line, Two lines, and Long two lines (sentences).

💡 Tip: The first time, the slider is set to Auto, which picks a length from your video's shape and length. Vertical videos get Short phrase. Horizontal videos get longer captions as the video gets longer, from One line (under 1 minute) to Long two lines (sentences) (10 minutes or more). To go back to the automatic length, click Auto.

Note: The Preview is an estimate. The final captions are timed to the words in the voice. The length you choose is saved and selected the next time you generate captions. It also sets Max lines in the Layout tab: 1 line for one-line lengths and 2 lines for two-line lengths.

Note: Captions are created from the script. Type your script in the script panel on the right before you generate captions. A scene with no script has nothing to caption.

💡 Tip: Already have subtitles? Click Captions Upload (.srt) instead to import your own .srt file.

To fix a caption's text:

When you click a line, its words appear as chips:

💡 Tip: Use Find & Replace in the Transcript tab to find a word or phrase in your captions and replace it. With Also update script on, the script changes too. If you run the same replacement again (for example, «AI» → «AI Studios»), places you already changed are skipped and shown as Already replaced (skipped), so words aren't doubled.

Caption times in the panel count from the start of the video, the same as the timeline under the canvas. For example, if scene 1 is 10.7 seconds long, the first caption of scene 2 starts at 0:10.7.

To adjust a caption's timing:

Note: Captions don't flicker off during short pauses. If the next caption starts within 2 seconds, the current caption stays on screen until then, and the last caption of a scene stays until the scene ends. This is the same in the preview, on the timeline, and in the exported video. The Start and End values you set don't change.

Note: A red Fast label under a caption shows its reading speed in characters per second when it's above the recommended limit. Shorten the text, split the caption, or give it more time so viewers can read it.

Captions are timed to the voice that was used when you generated them. If you change a scene's avatar or voice afterwards, the timing may no longer match.

To update the captions:

Note: Regenerating replaces your caption edits in that scene. Editing caption text, changing the style, or editing the script doesn't show this notice. Captions uploaded from an .srt file aren't checked.

To change how captions look:

With Apply to all scenes turned on at the top of the Caption panel, your style and layout changes apply to every scene. To reuse your own look, click Save current style to keep it in My Styles.

To download your captions:

To delete captions, click ⋯ next to a scene heading and choose Delete.

To hide all captions without deleting them, turn off Toggle captions visibility at the top of the Transcript tab. Turn it back on to show them again.

Note: There's no single button to delete the captions of every scene. To remove all captions, choose ⋯ > Delete for each scene. When no scene has captions, the Caption panel shows Generate Captions and Captions Upload (.srt) again.

💡 Tip: The eye icon next to a scene heading hides that scene's captions only.

My captions are split into too many short pieces. How do I make them longer?
Click Regenerate All Captions, click Confirm, then drag the slider toward Two lines and click Generate Captions. Long two lines (sentences) keeps whole sentences together where it can.

Are caption times counted per scene or for the whole video?
For the whole video. Caption times in the panel count from the start of the video, so they match the timeline under the canvas.

Why can't I generate captions?
Captions are created from the script. Enter a script in the script panel first, then click Generate Captions.

What language are the captions in?
Captions are generated in the language of the video script. If you translate the video, generate new captions so they match the translated language.

How do I download captions for another platform?
Click SRT in the Transcript tab to download one .srt (SubRip Subtitle) file for the whole video, or use ⋯ > Caption Download (.srt) for a single scene.

How do I remove captions or use my own .srt file instead?
Click ⋯ next to each scene heading and choose Delete; repeat for every scene to remove all captions. When the project has no captions, the Caption panel shows Captions Upload (.srt) so you can import your own file. To keep captions but not show them, turn off Toggle captions visibility instead.

I changed my script. Do my captions update?
No. Click Regenerate All Captions, then Confirm, to rebuild them from the new script. You can pick a new length before they're generated. It replaces your caption edits, so use it after you finish changing the script.

I changed the avatar or voice. What should I do?
Click Regenerate next to the notice at the top of that scene in the Caption panel. See «After you change the avatar or voice» above.

Is generating captions available on every plan?
Generating captions and uploading .srt files may depend on your plan.
