Watch: Use ElevenLabs v4 and emotion tags

In this help doc

ElevenLabs v4 is the default voice engine in the Studio editor. This doc shows how to check or change the engine, preview the voice, add emotion tags, and keep each speaker's voice the same in a conversation.

About ElevenLabs v4

In the Studio editor, every voice uses ElevenLabs v4 by default. You can change the engine in the voice's fine-tune window.

ElevenLabs v4 is designed to:

  • Express a richer range of emotion tags.

  • Speak more languages, with 90 languages in AI Studios.

  • Keep the same speaker's voice consistent, without distortion.

  • Keep the flow of context in long scripts.

Check or change the voice engine

To check or change the engine:

  1. Look at the voice button above the script. The badge next to the voice name, such as v4, shows the engine.

  2. Click the fine-tune button next to the voice. The Fine-tuned window opens.

  3. Under Voice Model, choose ElevenLabs Multilingual v2, ElevenLabs v3, or ElevenLabs v4 (Default).

  2. Click play under Check the synthesized audio! to hear the voice.

  3. Click Apply This scene only or Apply to all scenes.

💡 Tip: Higher stability makes the voice more consistent, but it may sound monotone. For longer texts, try a lower value.

💡 Tip: Select Set as default for future projects to use these settings for this voice in new projects.

Add emotion tags

To add emotion tags:

  1. Click Emotion Tag at the bottom of the script panel. AI adds tags that match your script, such as [happy].

  2. Or type a tag in square brackets before the words, such as [calm].

Note: Emotion tags work with ElevenLabs v3 and v4 voices. They are available on paid plans.

💡 Tip: You can add a tag to each sentence, so the emotion can change within one line.

Keep a speaker's voice the same in a conversation

To keep each speaker's voice the same:

  1. Open the conversation tab above the script.

  2. Keep Apply to same speaker using the same voice turned on. It is on by default.

Note: When this option is on, changing the voice or fine-tuning of one turn applies to every turn of the same speaker. Turn it off to use a different voice for one turn.

FAQ

Will my existing projects switch to ElevenLabs v4?
No. If you chose ElevenLabs Multilingual v2 or v3 in a project, the project keeps that engine.

What happens if I add emotion tags to a Multilingual v2 voice?
The voice switches to ElevenLabs v4. If v4 doesn't support the language, it uses v3. If neither supports it, the tags are removed.

Which voices can use ElevenLabs v4?
ElevenLabs voices and your voice clones.
