This doc answers common questions about Video Avatars and explains why one might fail to generate or look unnatural. Check these points before you record or upload your video.
Why does my Video Avatar look wrong or fail to generate?
First, make sure you have a free avatar slot. Running out of slots is the most common reason a Video Avatar fails. If your slots are full, delete a Video Avatar you no longer use to free up its slot. See How do I delete a Photo or Custom Avatar?
Then check your video for these common problems:
Obstructed face: Keep the area from your chin to your nose clear. Scarves, masks, microphones, or even hair can stop the AI from processing your face.
Hands blocking the face: Avoid large hand movements or gestures that cover your face at any point in the video.
Lips hidden: Make sure facial features such as facial hair don't hide the movement of your lips. Trimming or adjusting the camera angle can help.
Too much head movement: Keep your head steady. Extreme tilts, quick turns, or leaning away from the camera make your face hard to track.
Too little mouth movement: Move your mouth clearly while you speak, so the AI can sync the avatar's lips with the audio.
Poor lighting: Light your face evenly. Avoid shadows, overexposure, dark rooms, strong light from one side, and flickering lights.
Video too short: An uploaded video must be at least 10 seconds long, and a 15–60 second talking video is recommended.
Low-quality video: Record in high resolution. Blurry, dark, or heavily edited videos lower the quality of the avatar.
More than one person: Keep only one person in the video from start to finish, with no scene changes.
💡 Tip: Always review your video before you submit it. On the upload screen, the Recommended Upload Guidelines show good and bad examples.
FAQ
Will my Video Avatar be available to other users in AI Studios?
No. Your Video Avatars and Photo Avatars are private to your account unless you share them. On the Team plan, you can share avatars you create with other members of your workspace.
Is a Custom Avatar the same as a Video Avatar?
Yes. Custom Avatars are now called Video Avatars. Avatars you created before still work.
Can I record my avatar video in AI Studios?
Yes. Choose Live Recording when you create a Video Avatar to record with your webcam. You can finish the recording after 15 seconds.
