You can turn a character image, such as a mascot or an illustrated figure, into an interactive avatar that talks with people in real time. This doc shows how to upload the image, choose a name and a voice, and create the interactive avatar.

Upload your character image

To upload the image:

  1. In Interactive Avatar, open Avatars and click Create Avatar.

  2. Click Start with a Photo.

  3. Drag your image into the upload area, or click it to choose a file. Use a JPG, PNG, or WEBP file up to 20 MB.

  4. The first time you upload, the Media Upload Agreement appears. Read it, check both boxes, and click Upload & Continue.

  5. Click Submit.

Choosing Start with a Photo and uploading a character image

For the best result, use an image of one character with a clear, front-facing face, clearly visible features, and a simple background. An image at least 512 × 512 px is recommended. Don't use characters that may infringe IP rights.

Name your character and choose a voice

The Review Interactive Avatar Setup page opens.

  1. Check Avatar Type. It's detected from your image. If it's wrong, choose Character.

  2. Enter the Avatar Name and choose the Gender.

  3. Click Select Voice and pick the voice your character will speak with. A picture has no voice of its own, so this voice is used in every conversation.

  4. Check the box to confirm you own the character image or have the rights to use it, and type your name in Signature exactly as shown in the field. Create Interactive Avatar stays unavailable until it matches.

A character avatar is created from your image and then set up as an interactive avatar. It uses 1 interactive avatar slot and appears in Interactive Avatars when it's ready.

FAQ

Does creating it use credits?
Yes. Preparing a character for real-time chat uses generative credits. The amount is shown before you confirm.

Can I upload a photo of a real person instead?
Yes. The same Start with a Photo option works with a photo of a person. Choose Real person as the Avatar Type.

What if I don't have the rights to the character?
Don't upload it. You must own the image or have permission to use it, and characters that may infringe IP rights should be avoided.
