What is an Interactive Avatar?

In this help doc

An interactive avatar is an AI avatar that listens, responds, and talks with people in real time through voice and lip-sync. This doc shows where to find interactive avatars, how to try a sample, and how to put an avatar in a project that others can talk to.

Open Interactive Avatar

To open Interactive Avatar:

  1. On your dashboard, click Interactive Avatar under Quick Start. You can also click Go to Interactive Avatar in the left menu.

  2. The Avatars page opens. AI Avatars lists sample avatars, and My Avatars lists avatars you create.

The left menu also has Knowledge Base, Projects, Interactive coaching, and the Role Play pages.

Try a sample avatar

You don't need to create your own avatar first. Sample avatars, such as Jason (Sales) and Selena (CS center), are ready to use.

To try a sample avatar:

  1. Hover over a sample avatar and click Start Chat. The conversation screen opens, and the avatar answers you by voice.

  2. To pick how the chat runs, click the arrow next to Start Chat and choose SDK or Streaming.

Note: A conversation uses interactive avatar credits for the time the session is active. It stops using credits when the session ends.

Use an avatar in a project

A project sets who the avatar is and what it knows, so you can share it with others.

To create a project:

  1. Click Projects in the left menu. Two samples are there: an interactive avatar project and an AI interview project.

  2. Click Create Project, then choose General Conversation.

  3. Enter a Project Name, then pick the Language, the avatar in Select Avatar, and the voice in Select Voice.

  4. In Conversation Settings, you can set the Model, a Conversation Prompt, a Greeting Message, and a Knowledge Base. All four are optional.

Save the project. Your settings are kept when you open the project again. Then you can share the conversation link or embed it on your website. Conversations people have through the link or embed code appear in the project's Conversation Management page.

💡 Tip: To have the avatar interview job candidates instead, choose AI Interview as the project type.

Credits and avatar slots

Interactive avatars are billed in two parts:

  • Avatar creation (slots): Creating your own avatar uses an avatar slot. Sample avatars don't need a slot. A slot is used only when creation finishes successfully. You can buy more slots as an add-on.

  • Conversation time (credits): Credits are used for the time a conversation is active. 1 credit covers 5 minutes of conversation. If you run out of credits, the conversation ends.
